Bangladesh Foreign Minister Meets Qatar PM on Energy Security and Bilateral Cooperation
DOHA, August 19, 2026: Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on Wednesday called on Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani at his office in Doha, with discussions focusing on bilateral relations, regional stability and energy security.
During the meeting, Dr. Khalilur Rahman conveyed the greetings of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the Qatari leadership and expressed Bangladesh’s solidarity with Qatar.
The Bangladesh foreign minister commended Qatar’s constructive and responsible role in promoting peace, security and stability in the region, describing its efforts as significant for the wider region and beyond.
Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly and reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to extending support and cooperation to help him successfully discharge his responsibilities at the UN.
The two sides also discussed bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual interest. Sheikh Mohammed described Bangladesh as a “brotherly country” and assured that Qatar would provide all possible support to Bangladesh in ensuring energy security, particularly amid the current challenging global circumstances.
Energy cooperation remains a key component of Bangladesh-Qatar relations, with Qatar playing an important role in Bangladesh’s energy supply.
During the meeting, Dr. Khalilur Rahman also invited the Qatari Prime Minister to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time.
Later, the Bangladesh Foreign Minister held a separate meeting with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi. They discussed bilateral relations and a range of regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit, Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, and senior officials from both countries attended the meetings.
