Bangladesh, Uzbekistan Vow to Expand Bilateral Cooperation

Bangladesh and Uzbekistan have expressed readiness to further expand their multifaceted partnership during a meeting between Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Uzbekistan.

Rahman, also President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the World Summit on “Investing in Children’s Well-being: Towards Sustainable and Equitable Development for Future Generations”, scheduled for October 21–22 in Samarkand, according to a message received here today.

During the meeting, the two sides expressed their readiness to broaden bilateral cooperation and further strengthen the partnership between Bangladesh and Uzbekistan.

Mirziyoyev congratulated Rahman on his election as UNGA president, noting that Uzbekistan was the first country he had visited in that capacity.

Rahman conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to the Uzbek president.

The discussions also focused on expanding and strengthening cooperation with the United Nations and its agencies.

The two sides reaffirmed their shared interest in constructive cooperation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, advance regional cooperation in Central Asia, address the impacts of climate change and promote a culture of peace and interfaith dialogue.

The UN General Assembly has adopted 15 resolutions initiated by Uzbekistan in recent years, including two approved this year.

Uzbekistan has also announced its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for the 2035–2036 terms.
