Acting Speaker urges dignity and rights for persons with disabilities.
A delegation led by Founder and Executive Director of Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organisation (BERDO) Md Saidul Haque paid a courtesy call on Acting Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, today.
During the meeting, the Acting Speaker said it is the duty of everyone to treat all people with equal dignity and respect.
“We should not consider persons with disabilities as obstacles,” he said, adding that ensuring dignity for people is one of the sacred responsibilities of lawmakers.
During the meeting, the delegation and the Acting Speaker exchanged views on ensuring proper protection for persons with disabilities at the global level, guaranteeing their right to education and upholding their right to equality as human beings, said a press release.
The delegation also called for ensuring representation of persons with disabilities in political parties and establishing a parliamentary caucus to ensure their appropriate legal protection and decent employment opportunities.
