India, Bangladesh discuss cultural cooperation
India and Bangladesh have discussed strengthening cultural exchanges and cooperation in areas including classical music, folk art, heritage conservation and joint cultural programmes.
Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met Bangladesh’s Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury on September 6, 2026. State Minister for Cultural Affairs Ali Nawaz Mahmud Khayyam was also present at the meeting.
The discussion highlighted the deep-rooted cultural connections between the peoples of the two countries and the importance of further strengthening cultural engagement, according to a post shared by the High Commission of India in Bangladesh on its official social media platform.
The two sides explored potential cooperation and exchanges in several cultural fields, including classical music, folk art and heritage conservation.
They also discussed strengthening institutional linkages and organising joint cultural programmes and conferences.
Particular emphasis was placed on activities linked to the Nazrul Borsho celebrations, which commemorate the life and works of Bangladesh’s national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
The proposed cultural exchanges are aimed at further strengthening people-to-people ties between Bangladesh and India, the High Commission said.
Cultural cooperation has long been an important component of Bangladesh-India relations, with the two countries sharing historical, linguistic and artistic connections.
The latest discussions underscore the role of cultural engagement in deepening bilateral ties and creating greater opportunities for artists, cultural institutions and heritage practitioners from both countries.
