LDC graduation offers Bangladesh a chance to accelerate vital economic reforms.
Swiss Ambassador to Bangladesh Reto Renggli met Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Sunday to discuss Bangladesh’s economic priorities, LDC graduation and potential Swiss investment in key sectors.
During the meeting, the minister highlighted the government’s economic priorities and ongoing efforts to improve the ease of doing business and strengthen good governance, according to a post published by the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangladesh on its official social media page.
The ambassador and the minister also discussed Bangladesh’s upcoming graduation from the UN’s Least Developed Country (LDC) category.
Renggli said that whether Bangladesh graduates as scheduled or after a few years, the process presents an opportunity for the country to undertake vital economic reforms.
The meeting also covered bilateral economic relations between Bangladesh and Switzerland, with discussions focusing on potential new Swiss investment opportunities.
According to the embassy, key sectors discussed included logistics, ports and aviation, areas considered important for strengthening Bangladesh’s connectivity and economic competitiveness.
The meeting comes as Bangladesh continues to prepare for the challenges associated with LDC graduation, including the need to enhance competitiveness, improve the investment climate and strengthen economic institutions.
The discussions between the Swiss envoy and the finance minister reflected a shared interest in deepening bilateral economic engagement and creating opportunities for greater Swiss investment in Bangladesh.
