Culture can strengthen ties between Bangladesh, India: Dinesh Trivedi

DHAKA, Sept 11: Culture can play an important role in strengthening relations between Bangladesh and India, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi said on Friday, underscoring the two countries’ strong cultural bonds rooted in their shared heritage, literature and appreciation of nature.

“Culture can build good relations between two nations,” Trivedi said.

He made the remarks while speaking as the special guest at a dance-theatre performance held at the Chhayanaut Auditorium in Dhaka on Friday.

The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) of the High Commission of India in Dhaka organised the event.

Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury attended the programme as the chief guest, while High Commissioner Trivedi was present as the special guest.

Trivedi said the performance served as a reminder of the shared responsibility of people to respect, protect and preserve nature.

The production, titled “Dhora Taru Kabyo – Nature’s Tale,” was inspired by Kobi Guru Rabindranath Tagore’s celebrated poem Brikkho Bondona (Ode to Trees).

It portrayed the beauty and changing moods of Bengal’s six seasons, taking the audience through the blossoms of spring, the warmth of summer, the rains of monsoon, the abundance of autumn and the stillness of winter.

Through dance, music and theatrical expression, the production highlighted Tagore’s profound connection with nature and his vision of harmony between human beings and the natural world.

The performance also offered a contemporary artistic interpretation of Tagore’s timeless message while highlighting the enduring cultural connections between Bangladesh and India.
