Government earmarks Tk500cr startup fund for youth entrepreneurs.

Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain today said the government in the current national budget has earmarked Taka 500 crore for ‘startup fund’ to groom up the youths as entrepreneurs.

He urged the youths to become entrepreneurs after developing competence in technical and vocational education and utilize the fund.

The minister said this while inaugurating two-day International Youth Day organized by the Save the Children at Tejgaon here.

The minister said the government is imparting training to the youths on different trades through different agencies. Even the government is providing seed money to those who have no financial capacity to run a business.

Mentioning that the youngsters are the ‘core strength’ for building the future Bangladesh, the social welfare minister said if the youngsters could be developed as educated and skilled one then they would be assets not only for Bangladesh but also for the whole world.

Dr Zahid emphasized technical education along with the general education in order to exploiting the demographic dividend accurately.
As the government wants to construct an inclusive and humanitarian Bangladesh, so the participation of the people of all strata is required to achieve this goal.

The other participants stressed the need for acquiring skills aligned with market demand and developing networking.

Save the Children Country director Suman Sen Gupta, vice chancellor of the University of Liberal Arts Professor Dr Samsad Murtoza, foreign diplomat, representatives from different development partners, NGOs, civil society and media workers attended the function.
