Government vows transparent trials for crimes under previous regime.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today said the government is firmly moving forward to ensure justice for every murder and crime against humanity committed during the fascist regime.

“The trials will be conducted in a completely transparent and fair manner,” he said while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange of views with lawyers at the Barishal District Bar Association.

The law minister said a large number of political activists were killed and subjected to enforced disappearance in the name of “crossfire” over the past 17 years. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of leaders and activists were implicated in false and fabricated cases.

“No offender will be spared in this Bangladesh, which was achieved through the blood of around 1,400 martyrs and the sacrifice of some 30,000 young people who suffered disabilities during the historic July 2024 Uprising of students and people,” he said.

On the global crisis and the government’s economic measures, the minister said the government was working to tackle the crisis despite rising fuel prices and supply shortages in the international market.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon, in his welcome address, said the government was working to establish full independence of the judiciary and genuine rule of law in the country by dismantling the politically and administratively destructive culture that prevailed under the previous government.

Presided over by Barishal District Bar Council President Abul Kalam Azad, the meeting was attended by Bangladesh Bar Council Vice Chairman Advocate Zainul Abedin, MP, Advocate Md Mazibur Rahman Sarwar, MP, Barishal City Corporation Administrator Bilkis Jahan Shirin, and District and Sessions Judge Faruk Hossain, among others.

The law minister earlier laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 10-storey building of the Barishal District Bar Association.
