Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Md Asaduzzaman today said the government is satisfied with the verdict in child Ramisa rape and murder case "for the time being" and hopes it will be upheld by the higher court.

He said the government was able to get the trial completed within six working days, adding that it was the first time in the country's judicial history that such a case was concluded within such a short period.

"We are satisfied with the judgment for the time being and hope that it will be upheld by the higher court as well," he said at a press briefing at the ministry this noon.

"We cannot bring Ramisa back; we cannot return her to her parents. But we tried to do our best," he added.

The Law Minister said that a vacation from June 1 to June 15 is currently underway in the lower courts.

"The Prime Minister had said that the government is committed to complete the trial within a month. Following that, we sent a proposal to the Chief Justice requesting that the juvenile tribunals be kept out of the ongoing vacation. The Chief Justice gave his consent and excluded the juvenile tribunals from the vacation," he added.

The tribunal framed charges in the case on June 1 and completed legal arguments on June 4, paving the way for the verdict within a week of the indictment.
