Government moves to eliminate aviation syndicates, ensure fair fares.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afroza Khanam today said the government is working to eliminate syndicates from the aviation sector while ensuring fair airfares for expatriate Bangladeshis.
"With the cooperation of all of you, I hope we will be able to eliminate all syndicates in the aviation sector," she said.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion marking "National Fisheries Fortnight 2026" at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Manikganj, said an official press release here.
Afroza said the government has made significant progress in implementing its election manifesto during its first six months in office, including initiatives to develop Bangladesh into a regional aviation hub.
She said the government is also working to ensure fair airfares for expatriate Bangladeshis.
The minister said initiatives are being taken to offer special incentives on airfares and accommodation at hotels and motels under the Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation in honour of the July fighters.
Earlier, Afroza inaugurated a colourful rally marking "National Fisheries Fortnight 2026" under the theme "Self-Reliant Nation with Silver Fish, Bangladesh First".
The rally began in front of the Deputy Commissioner's Office at 11 am, and ended on the office premises after parading through important streets of the town.
Later, the minister released fish fry into a pond adjacent to the Deputy Commissioner's Office.
Addressing the discussion as the chief guest, Afroza said the government is working to move the country forward under its "Bangladesh First" principle.
She urged government officials to play a more proactive role in implementing the government's election manifesto.
The minister said the Department of Fisheries is working relentlessly to conserve the country's fisheries resources and ensure sustainable production, while the government remains ready to provide necessary technical assistance to fish farmers.
She stressed expanding fish farming at the grassroots level, saying indigenous fish play an important role in meeting the nutritional and protein needs of the people.
Popularising fish farming across the country could also contribute to poverty alleviation and strengthening the national economy, she added.
The programmes marking National Fisheries Fortnight focused on conservation of fisheries resources, sustainable production and expansion of fish farming at the grassroots.
The administrator of Manikganj Zila Parishad and senior officials of different government departments in the district, among others, attended the discussion.
