High Court clears way for BCB elections.
The High Court (HC) today cleared all the legal bars from holding Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections on June 7, as it scrapped a writ petition challenging the legality of polls schedule and voter list.
“Not pressed,” said the order passed by the High Court Division bench of Justice Bhishmadev Chakrabortty and Justice Md Ashif Hasan.
Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal argued for the state, while advocates Mohammad Hossain, Azim Uddin and Shafikul Islam moved the writ before the court. Barrister Mahin M Rahman stood for BCB.
The writ petition was filed on May 18 by six individuals, including Armanul Islam Nayon, seeking withdrawal of the BCB CEO's May 6 letter sent to presidents of different district sports associations (Deputy Commissioners) asking them to nominate councillors for the Bangladesh Cricket Board's general council ahead of the formation of the general council and the 2026 board elections. The petitioners also sought a stay on the election schedule.
The other petitioners are: Md Naim Hawlader, Md Enamul Ahsan, Md Abdullah Arko, Akib Javed and Md Rakibul Islam.
