Parliamentary panel urges measures to improve Teletalk services
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology has suggested taking necessary measures to improve the quality of Teletalk services while ensuring diversified use of information and communication technology (ICT) to develop the younger generation, create employment opportunities and build a knowledge-based society.
The recommendation was made at the committee's first meeting today at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, chaired by committee Chairman Kalim Uddin Ahmed, according to a press release.
Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam, along with committee members Md Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Md Tamiz Uddin, Md Mobasher Alam Bhuiyan, Mansura Akter, Md Keramat Ali and Saeed Uddin Ahmad Hanzala, attended the meeting.
The meeting called for expediting projects aimed at preserving the addresses of all citizens in the Postal Department's database, expanding broadband infrastructure and ensuring reliable and affordable digital services.
The committee also placed emphasis on building an AI-enabled Bangladesh, promoting digital payments, resolving customer complaints through call centres, strengthening cybersecurity and ensuring safe internet use for children and secondary-level students across the country.
At the outset, the committee chairman, members and senior officials concerned took part in an introductory session in line with the meeting's agenda.
The committee was briefed on the manpower of various offices under the ministry, their functions, notable achievements and future plans.
The ministry presented information on policy formulation and implementation relating to postal and telecommunications services, data waves, the telecommunications industry, parcel services and ongoing Wi-Fi-related activities.
The meeting was also briefed on Wi-Fi services at airports, measures to improve the quality of land services, plans to reduce internet costs, effective utilisation of unused BTCL assets and initiatives to increase the volume of parcel services provided by the Postal Department.
Secretaries of the Posts and Telecommunications Division and the Information and Communication Technology Division, heads of offices under the ministry, senior officials concerned and relevant officials of the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present at the meeting.
