‘Khadi Katha’ celebrates Bangladesh’s handwoven heritage, sustainability
DHAKA, Oct 3, 2026: A special event titled ‘Khadi Katha’ celebrated khadi as a symbol of self-reliance, sustainability and shared cultural heritage, highlighting the enduring relevance of Bangladesh’s traditional handwoven textile.
Renowned Bangladeshi designer Biplob Saha made a special presentation at the event, showcasing the creative possibilities of khadi and its place in contemporary fashion.
The programme also featured khadi stalls by Friendship (Nodi Ltd.) and Comilla Khadi Ghor, offering visitors an opportunity to explore traditional khadi products and craftsmanship.
A traditional spinning demonstration was also held, providing a glimpse into the age-old techniques associated with khadi production.
The event sought to connect Bangladesh’s rich textile heritage with contemporary ideas of sustainability and self-reliance, while drawing attention to the continuing cultural and economic significance of khadi.
Through the participation of designers, artisans and organisations working with traditional textiles, ‘Khadi Katha’ underscored the potential of khadi to remain relevant in modern Bangladesh while preserving its heritage.
