Nepal-Bangladesh ties need stronger connectivity, energy cooperation: Ambassador

Dhaka, Oct 3: Nepal-Bangladesh relations have significant scope for further expansion, particularly in physical connectivity, trade and investment, energy cooperation and people-to-people ties, Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanashyam Bhandari said on Saturday.

Bhandari made the remarks while addressing a session titled “Diplomatic Lens” at the Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026 in Dhaka.

The ambassador highlighted key dimensions of bilateral relations between Nepal and Bangladesh, noting the evolving nature of cooperation between the two countries and the opportunities to deepen ties further.

He put particular emphasis on improving physical connectivity between the two countries, expanding trade and investment, and strengthening cooperation in energy security and electricity trade.

Bhandari also underscored the importance of people-to-people contacts and cooperation in technology, as well as greater collaboration at regional and multilateral forums.

Climate change, he said, is another area where Nepal and Bangladesh can further strengthen cooperation, given the shared vulnerabilities and challenges facing the region.

The ambassador's remarks came as Bangladesh and Nepal seek to broaden bilateral cooperation beyond traditional areas and make greater use of opportunities for regional connectivity and economic partnership.

The Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026, organised by the Centre for Governance Studies (CGS), is being held in Dhaka from October 3 to 5.
