NU VC urges support for failed HSC students, vows education reforms

National University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ASM Amanullah has urged educational institutions and teachers to provide greater care and support to students who failed in this year's HSC and equivalent examinations instead of becoming disappointed over their results.

Commenting on the result, he expressed optimism that the pass rate would return to a satisfactory level in the coming years through teachers' sincerity and institutional commitment.

Dr. Amanullah said the decline in the pass rate should not be considered a “disaster in results”, describing it instead as a temporary impact of introducing discipline and accountability in the evaluation system to ensure educational quality.

He emphasised the need to assess institutional capacity rather than blame students and said the results had made students realise the importance of greater attention to their studies.

Welcoming the Education Ministry's decision to arrange fresh examinations within a month and re-evaluate the answer scripts of 422,905 students who failed in one or two subjects, he said the initiative would help them avoid losing an academic year and could increase the pass rate by at least 10 percent.

He urged college principals, teachers and guardians to work together to identify students' weaknesses, boost their confidence and provide additional classes where necessary, including on holidays.

He expressed confidence that ongoing education reforms and stronger accountability would ultimately improve both examination results and the overall quality of education.
