Approval expected to strengthen bilateral agricultural trade and create new export opportunities
Pakistan has officially granted permission for the import of fresh pineapples from Bangladesh, marking a significant milestone in bilateral agricultural trade and opening new opportunities for Bangladeshi exporters.
The market access follows years of sustained diplomatic engagement and coordinated efforts by the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad, the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Karachi, the Department of Agricultural Extension, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and relevant authorities in both Bangladesh and Pakistan.
According to Counsellor (Press) of Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad Md. Taiob Ali said in a press note that Pakistan has a strong consumer demand for Bangladeshi pineapples due to their quality and taste. The approval is expected to provide Bangladeshi growers and exporters with access to a promising new market while contributing to increased agricultural exports.
Diplomatic sources said the development reflects the growing economic cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan and demonstrates the effectiveness of continued institutional coordination in resolving market access issues.
Officials also expressed optimism that the approval would facilitate the export of other Bangladeshi agricultural products and fresh fruits to Pakistan in the future, helping diversify bilateral trade and strengthen commercial ties between the two countries.
The latest development is expected to encourage greater private-sector engagement and further expand trade and investment opportunities, particularly in the agricultural sector, as both countries seek to enhance economic cooperation.
