Workshop strengthens Bangladesh's climate adaptation and finance capacity.
Prime Minister's Environment, Forest and Climate Change Affairs Special Assistant Dr. Md. Saimum Parvez has underscored the importance of strengthening institutional capacity and enhancing collaboration to address the growing challenges of climate change, adaptation and loss and damage in Bangladesh.
He made the remarks while addressing the closing session of a two-day workshop on "Climate Change Policy and Governance: Understanding the Adaptation, Loss and Damage Nexus and Pathways to Access International Finance from Global Funding Mechanism" at BCCT conference room at Ban Bhaban in Mohakhali yesterday.
International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) and ADAMS Foundation jointly organised the event with support from the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka and hosted by the Bangladesh Climate Change Trust (BCCT).
Expressing gratitude to the Norwegian Embassy for its continued support, Dr. Parvez said such initiatives play an important role in strengthening the capacity of government officials to effectively address climate change, particularly issues relating to adaptation, loss and damage, and access to international climate finance.
He hoped that similar collaborative initiatives would continue in the future to further enhance Bangladesh's institutional preparedness and climate resilience.
Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Mohammad Navid Saifullah inaugurated the workshop, while BCCT Managing Director Gazi Md. Waliul Haque presided over the programme.
Head of Administration and Chargé d'affaires of the Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka Fredrik Karlsrud attended the closing session as the special guest.
The workshop brought together representatives from relevant ministries, departments and government agencies engaged in climate-related activities.
Resource persons included Director (Climate Change and International Convention) of the Department of Environment Mirza Shawkat Ali, Deputy Director (Climate Change) Md. Mahmud Hossain, ICCCAD Adviser Dr. Fazle Rabbi Sadeque Ahmed, ICCCAD Managing Director Saqib Huq, BCCT Managing Director Gazi Md. Waliul Haque, and Centre for Participatory Research and Development (CPRD) Chief Executive Director Md. Shamsuddoha.
One of the major outcomes of the workshop was the preparation of two comprehensive proposals under the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD) by participants from different ministries and departments, applying the knowledge and skills acquired during the training.
