President urges support for disadvantaged students, quality education
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today called for continuing support for disadvantaged and underprivileged students and maintaining the standard of university education.
He made the call when a delegation of the Board of Trustees of East West University, led by University' founding Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Mohammed Farashuddin paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban this noon, President's Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam told BSS.
Briefing the President on the overall academic activities of the university during the meeting, Prof Farashuddin said, "Around 16,000 students are currently studying at the university."
He said the university continues to provide scholarships to meritorious and financially insolvent students.
The VC also invited the Head of the State to attend the upcoming convocation of the university and the President accepted the invitation and assured his presence at the event.
The Military Secretary to the President, President's Secretary (Public Division, President's Office) its Press Secretary, as well as the university's Pro-VC, Treasurer and Registrar were also present during the
meeting.
