250-bed TB Hospital to become National TB Control Institute and Hospital.
State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj today said initiatives would be taken soon to transform the 250-bed TB Hospital into the National TB Control Institute and Hospital.
The transformation will expand facilities for the diagnosis, treatment and control of tuberculosis, as well as research and training, while strengthening the hospital's overall healthcare capacity, he said.
The state minister, who is also the Chairman of the TB Hospital Management Committee, made the remarks while addressing a meeting at the hospital here.
Necessary steps will be taken to fill the vacant posts quickly after discussions with the Ministry of Health, he said, assuring that all necessary support would continue to ensure quality and uninterrupted healthcare services for patients.
"A new 500-bed building will also be constructed to expand the hospital's services and capacity," he said.
He further directed the authorities concerned to take necessary measures to remove illegal encroachments from the footpath in front of the hospital so that patients and general public can move around without obstruction.
During his visit, the state minister inspected different wards of the hospital and reviewed the treatment services and overall management. He talked to patients and their attendants and instructed the relevant officials to take necessary steps to resolve their problems.
He also exchanged views with doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers. The state minister urged them to perform their duties with greater responsibility and sincerity to further improve the quality of healthcare services.
He also called on the hospital authorities to give the highest priority to ensuring that every patient seeking treatment at the government hospital receives humane and responsible care and does not face any form of harassment or inconvenience.
Deputy Director of the hospital Dr Ayesha Akter, along with officials from the Ministry of Health, Directorate General of Health Services and Department of Social Services, and members of the hospital management committee, were present at the meeting.
