Tech-driven fiction earns national recognition
Fiction writer Rahitul Islam has received the prestigious ‘Who’s Who Bangladesh 2026’ award in the Art and Literature category, recognising his contribution to technology-based storytelling.
The award was presented at a ceremony held at Hotel Sheraton on April 18. State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasir Khan Chowdhury attended as chief guest and handed over the honour alongside actress Gulshan Ara Akter Champa.
Rahitul Islam was recognised for pioneering a unique stream of fiction centred on technology and freelancing, engaging younger audiences through relatable narratives. Over the past 15 years, he has authored numerous works, including Sukhobor Bangladesh, Freelancer Nadia, Hacker Himel, and Heroes of the ICT Sector Series. Several of his stories have also been adapted into television dramas and telefilms.
The ‘Who’s Who Bangladesh 2026’ awards honoured 12 individuals and one institution across diverse fields such as education, journalism, entrepreneurship and social service. Notable recipients included Professor Dr G.K.M. Mostafizur Rahman, Farida Akter Popy (Bobita), Shakhawat Hossain and renowned photographer Shahidul Alam, who received the Lifetime Achievement award.
In his reaction, Rahitul Islam said he would continue promoting technology through literature, aiming to make complex digital concepts accessible to general readers.
The programme, organised by ‘Who’s Who Bangladesh’, seeks to recognise outstanding contributions across sectors and has been held biennially in the country since 2016.
