Stocks fall as DSEX sheds 18 points
Dhaka stocks extended their decline on Thursday, with the benchmark index falling nearly 19 points amid lower turnover.
The DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), fell 18.73 points, or 0.34 percent, from the previous trading session to settle at 5,531.65.
The DSE-30, which tracks 30 prominent companies, declined 4.89 points to 2,103.55, while the DSES, the Shariah-based index, fell 2.23 points to 1,100.26.
Turnover also declined, with shares and mutual fund units worth Tk 723.11 crore changing hands on the DSE. A total of 22.97 crore shares and units of 385 companies were traded.
Of the traded securities, prices of 85 companies rose, 242 declined and 58 remained unchanged.
IPDC Finance, Malek Spinning, Paramount Textile, Saiham Textile, Sharp Industries, Dominage Steel, Saiham Cotton, Evince Textiles, Envoy Textiles and Argon Denims were among the most traded securities in terms of turnover.
Tung Hai Knitting, Dominage Steel, Samata Leather, People's Leasing, Bangladesh Autocars, Argon Denims, Premier Leasing, Saiham Textile, the 20-year Bangladesh Government Treasury Bond and Apex Tannery were among the top gainers.
On the other hand, IPDC Finance, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, CAPM IBBL Islamic Mutual Fund, Sharp Industries, Sonargaon Textiles, National Polymer, Islami Commercial Insurance, the 15-year Bangladesh Government Treasury Bond, Paramount Textile and the 15-year BGTB maturing on April 27, 2037, were among the major decliners.
The DSE's market capitalisation stood at Tk 68,59,35,75,58,647 at the close of trading.
