Stocks rise as DSEX gains 26 points
Dhaka stocks closed higher on Wednesday as investors’ buying interest pushed the benchmark DSEX up more than 26 points, extending gains across most major indices.
The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), rose 26.19 points, or 0.47 percent, from the previous trading session to settle at 5,550.44.
The DSE-30 index, which tracks 30 leading companies, gained 13.86 points to 2,108.45, while the DSES, the Shariah-based index, advanced 4.47 points to 1,102.49.
Of the 387 companies and mutual funds traded on the day, prices of 190 advanced, 130 declined and 67 remained unchanged.
Turnover on the DSE stood at Tk 699.12 crore, with 20.47 crore shares and mutual fund units changing hands.
Paramount Textile topped the turnover chart, followed by Bangladesh National Insurance, Beximco Pharmaceuticals, IPDC Finance, Saiham Textile, BRAC Bank, Sharp Industries, Nitol Insurance, Evince Textiles and Envoy Textiles.
Samata Leather led the gainers, followed by SK Trims, Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund, IBBL Mudaraba Perpetual Bond, Delta Spinners, Sonali Life Insurance, Hamid Fabrics, People's Leasing, Paramount Textile and Al-Haj Textile.
On the other hand, the 20-year Bangladesh Government Treasury Bond led the decliners. Familytex (BD), MIDAS Financing, Meghna Pet Industries, Orion Pharma, Prime Finance, Anlima Yarn Dyeing, Nurani Dyeing and the 15-year Bangladesh Government Treasury Bond were among the other major losers.
The DSE's market capitalisation stood at Tk 68,74,765.90 crore at the end of the trading session.
