Stocks fall sharply as DSEX loses 39.55 points
Dhaka stocks witnessed a broad-based decline on Monday, with the benchmark DSEX falling 39.55 points to close at 5,379.
A total of 390 companies traded on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), with 186.06 million shares and mutual fund units changing hands. The total turnover stood at Tk 486.55 crore.
The DSE-30 index declined 9.20 points to 2,062.81, while the DSES, the Shariah-based index, fell 8.54 points to 1,076.85.
Of the companies traded, share prices rose for 56 issues, declined for 299 and remained unchanged for 35.
Envoy Textiles, Paramount Textile, Shapla Industries, BRAC Bank, Eastern Bank, Saiham Textile, Saiham Cotton, Central Insurance, Jamuna Bank and Reliance Insurance were among the top companies in terms of turnover.
Standard Insurance, Bangladesh National Insurance, Eastern Bank, Islami Insurance, Far East Knitting & Dyeing, Asiatic Laboratories, Phoenix Insurance, Dutch-Bangla Bank, Acme Laboratories and IPDC Finance were among the top gainers.
Meanwhile, CAPM BDBL Mutual Fund One, Bangladesh Export Import Company, Standard Ceramics, NCCBL Mutual Fund One, Yakin Polymer, EXIM Bank First Mutual Fund, Nahi Aluminium, Green Delta Mutual Fund, Saif Powertec and BD Thai Food were among the biggest losers.
The DSE's market capitalisation stood at Tk 6,85,120 crore at the end of the day's trading.
