DSE rallies as broad index gains 93 points
Dhaka stocks staged a strong rebound on Tuesday, with the benchmark DSEX surging more than 93 points as buying pressure spread across the market.
The DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 93.46 points, or 1.74 percent, to close at 5,472.46.
The DS30 index, comprising leading blue-chip stocks, rose 24.89 points to 2,087.71, while the DSES Shariah index advanced 16.66 points to 1,093.51.
The market saw broad-based gains, with 336 companies advancing, compared with only 21 declining and 37 remaining unchanged.
A total of 17.16 crore shares and mutual fund units changed hands in 394 companies during the session. Turnover stood at Tk 504.87 crore.
IPDC Finance led the turnover chart, followed by Reliance Insurance, Eastern Bank, Shinepukur Ceramics and Beximco Pharmaceuticals. Bangladesh National Insurance, Paramount Textile, Mercantile Islami Insurance and Malik Spinning were also among the most actively traded securities.
Al-Haj Textile emerged as the top gainer, while Al-Arafah Islami Bank recorded the steepest price decline.
The DSE's total market capitalisation stood at Tk 68,641.98 crore at the end of the trading session.
Tuesday's sharp rise in the broad index, coupled with the overwhelming number of advancing issues, reflected strong buying interest across a wide section of the market.
