Stocks gain as DSEX rises 21 points

Dhaka stocks gained on Wednesday as the broad-based DSEX rose more than 21 points amid higher participation from investors.

The DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 21.61 points to close at 5,494.07.

The DS30 index, which represents 30 leading companies, advanced 5.27 points to 2,092.98, while the DSES index, representing Shariah-compliant stocks, rose 5.79 points to 1,099.30.

Trading activity also increased, with shares and units of 386 companies changing hands on the day.

Of them, prices of 180 companies rose, 153 declined and 53 remained unchanged.

The DSE recorded total turnover of Tk 556.20 crore, with 19.53 crore shares and mutual fund units changing hands.

Sharp Industries topped the turnover chart, followed by Eastern Bank, Envoy Textiles, Saiham Textile, Malek Spinning, Paramount Textile, Saiham Cotton, IFIC First Finance, Summit Alliance Port and Bangladesh National Insurance.

Orion Infusion led the gainers, followed by Al-Haj Textile, Information Services Network, APEX Spinning, Samata Leather, Silco Pharmaceuticals, Rahim Textile, Bangladesh Autocars, Agni Systems and Khan Brothers.

Genetix Thai Food was the day's biggest decliner, followed by Sena Insurance, EXIM Bank First Mutual Fund, EDL First Mutual Fund, Phoenix Finance First Mutual Fund, National Housing Finance, Bangladesh National Insurance, Ring Shine Textiles, Premier Leasing and Reliance Insurance.

The DSE's market capitalisation stood at Tk 68,911,614.92 million at the end of the day's trading.
