DSEX falls 10 points as most stocks lose ground

Dhaka stocks ended lower on Tuesday as the majority of traded issues saw their prices decline, with the benchmark DSEX losing 10.18 points to close at 5,540.32.

Trading activity remained relatively high, with shares and units of 385 companies changing hands on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE). Turnover stood at Tk 791.48 crore.

The DSE-30 index, comprising leading blue-chip companies, gained 0.26 points to 2,106.18, while the DSES index, which tracks Shariah-compliant stocks, rose 1.57 points to 1,108.57.

Of the issues traded, 103 advanced, 227 declined and 55 remained unchanged, according to DSE data.

Dominage Steel topped the turnover chart, followed by Eastern Bank, Square Pharmaceuticals, Saiham Textile, Anwar Galvanizing, Sharp Industries, Taufika Foods, Paramount Textile, Envoy Textiles and Acme Pesticides.

Dominage Steel also led the gainers' list. Information Services, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, ICB AMCL Second Mutual Fund, Orion Infusion, Shinepukur Ceramics, Desh Garments, Prime Bank 1st ICB AMCL Mutual Fund, Green Delta Mutual Fund and Grameen One: Scheme Two were among the other top gainers.

First Finance led the decliners, followed by Zahin Spinning, New Line Clothings, Tung Hai Knitting & Dyeing, Premier Leasing & Finance, Mercantile Bank, Familytex (BD), EXIM Bank First Mutual Fund, Metro Spinning and Associated Oxygen.

The DSE's market capitalisation stood at Tk 69,144.47 crore at the close of trading.
