Symphony plans to export handsets to US, Africa from mid-2027
Symphony Mobile is planning to resume handset exports from Bangladesh to overseas markets, including the United States, Africa and other Asian countries, from the middle of next year, its Managing Director Jakaria Shahid said.
The company plans to expand its international business if the government continues to create a more favourable policy and regulatory environment for exports, he said.
“We are planning to export our handsets to the USA, Africa and other Asian markets from the middle of next year,” Jakaria Shahid, founder of Edison Group and managing director of Symphony Mobile, told journalists on Thursday.
He made the remarks during a question-and-answer session at a ceremony organised by Symphony Mobile at a city hotel to celebrate the company reaching 14 crore customers in the local market.
Jakaria said Symphony had previously exported a significant volume of handsets to Nepal. However, the company was eventually forced to discontinue its exports due to what he described as insufficient government policy support.
“Earlier, we exported a large number of handsets to Nepal. But we had to stop the export operation because of inadequate government policies,” he said.
He said the current government was taking steps to create a more export-friendly business environment, which had encouraged Symphony to reconsider its overseas expansion plans.
Against this backdrop, the company is preparing to restart handset exports and expand its presence in international markets from the middle of next year, he added.
Jakaria also said the handsets would be exported with the “Made in Bangladesh” tag, highlighting the company's intention to promote Bangladesh-made mobile phones in international markets.
The move could open a new avenue for Bangladesh's growing electronics and mobile handset industry, particularly as local manufacturers seek to diversify beyond the domestic market.
Symphony has been one of the major local handset brands in Bangladesh, with the company manufacturing and marketing mobile devices for the domestic market for years.
The company's planned exports to the US, African and Asian markets would also mark a significant step in expanding the global footprint of Bangladesh's locally produced consumer electronics.
