30th edition brings American products, technologies and investors together with Bangladeshi businesses

DHAKA, November 5: The 30th US Trade Show opened in Dhaka on Thursday, bringing together policymakers, diplomats and business leaders to explore opportunities for expanding trade, investment and economic cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

The three-day event, running from November 5 to 7 at InterContinental Dhaka, is jointly organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) and the US Embassy in Dhaka.

Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram, Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad, inaugurated the exhibition as chief guest. Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo attended as special guest, while US Ambassador Brent T Christensen was present as guest of honour.

AmCham Bangladesh President Syed Mohammad Kamal and senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders and representatives of participating organisations also attended the inauguration ceremony.

Addressing the event, Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad said Bangladesh and the United States shared a longstanding relationship built on trade, investment and mutual cooperation.

Platforms such as the US Trade Show create valuable opportunities to strengthen the partnership and encourage greater engagement between businesses of the two countries, he said.

Bangladesh remained committed to building a competitive and investment-friendly economy that could generate employment, create business opportunities and support sustainable economic development, he added.

Environment Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo said trade and investment were important drivers of Bangladesh's economic growth, stressing the need for stronger international collaboration as the country moves towards a more competitive and sustainable economy.

American businesses could contribute through advanced technologies, expertise and investment, particularly in industrial efficiency, environmental sustainability and long-term economic resilience, he said.

US Ambassador Brent T Christensen said the United States valued its strong commercial relationship with Bangladesh, adding that American companies offered world-class products, services and technologies that could contribute to the country's economic development.

He expressed optimism about expanding commercial partnerships, encouraging investment and strengthening economic ties between the two countries.

AmCham Bangladesh President Syed Mohammad Kamal said the trade show had served as an important platform for connecting American businesses with the Bangladeshi market for three decades.

The 30th edition reflected AmCham's continued commitment to promoting bilateral trade, investment and business collaboration, he said, adding that the event aimed to create new business opportunities and strengthen economic ties.

The exhibition features a wide range of American products, services and technologies across different sectors, allowing visitors and local businesses to explore innovations, exchange ideas and establish business connections.

Alongside the exhibition, a series of seminars and discussions will focus on key economic and business priorities, including energy security, healthcare and medical technology, women's leadership, outbound investment, reciprocal trade, and the ICT and digital economy.

The sessions are expected to bring together policymakers, industry experts and business leaders to discuss emerging opportunities and identify areas for greater cooperation.

Over the years, the US Trade Show has served as an important platform for promoting American businesses in Bangladesh and strengthening commercial engagement between the private sectors of the two countries.

The 30th US Trade Show will remain open to visitors until November 7 at InterContinental Dhaka.
