Tradition meets digital streaming for audiences

Banglalink is set to sponsor the 117th edition of Jabbar-er Boli Khela, reaffirming its long-standing support for one of the country’s most iconic cultural events.

The historic wrestling competition will take place on April 25 at Laldighi Maidan, alongside a three-day Baishakhi fair scheduled from April 24 to 26. This marks the 12th time Banglalink has partnered with the event.

Originally introduced in 1909 by Abdul Jabbar Sawdagor, the competition has evolved into a major cultural gathering, attracting wrestlers and spectators from across Bangladesh. Held annually in the Bengali New Year period, it remains a key part of Chattogram’s heritage.

A press conference at the Chattogram City Corporation Library outlined preparations, highlighting efforts to preserve the authenticity of the event while expanding its reach.

This year, the competition will be streamed live on Toffee, allowing audiences nationwide to experience the event in real time. The initiative reflects the growing role of digital platforms in promoting traditional sports to younger generations.

Banglalink said the sponsorship aligns with its broader commitment to cultural preservation, extending beyond telecommunications services.

With continued support from the descendants of Abdul Jabbar and the local community, the event remains a vibrant celebration of tradition, drawing nationwide participation and reinforcing its cultural significance.
