Azizul Islam’s flute brings the magic of ragas to Artist Club’s classical debut
DHAKA, September 15, 2026: The timeless beauty of Hindustani classical music resonated through the Artist Club Lounge in Banani on Tuesday evening as acclaimed flautist and Ekushey Padak recipient Ustad Azizul Islam performed an evening of ragas.
The performance marked the first classical music programme under Artist Club Limited’s regular cultural series, ‘Iconic Tuesday’.
Artist Club Limited President Sujit Mostofa introduced Ustad Azizul Islam to the audience at the beginning of the programme and also conducted the evening.
The veteran flautist opened the recital with Raga Yaman, setting the tone for an evening centred on the depth and diversity of Hindustani classical music. He subsequently performed Raga Shri and Raga Koriya-Dhanashree.
One of the evening’s notable moments was his rendition of Raga Hamir, created by National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam. He later performed Raga Jaijaiwanti, drawing an appreciative response from the audience.
For the concluding segment, Azizul Islam presented Raga Marubihar, followed by two forms of Raga Khamaj, bringing the extended recital to a close.
With more than six decades of engagement with classical music, the veteran musician used his flute to explore the melodic nuances of the ragas while offering the audience an intimate experience of the Hindustani classical tradition.
Among those attending were Artist Club senior member and adviser Mostafizur Rahman, dancer Munmun Ahmed, and other prominent figures from the cultural community.
Anisuzzaman Anis was responsible for the lighting and sound arrangements.
The programme was organised in line with Artist Club’s philosophy, ‘Where Artists Stand Together’. As the club’s first classical music-focused event, the initiative aims to bring together music, artistic heritage and practitioners through the continuing ‘Iconic Tuesday’ series.
