Bangladesh leverages culture for trade and investment diplomacy
Highlighting the strategic importance of Bangladesh’s cultural heritage, national identity and soft power in trade, investment and economic diplomacy, State Minister for Culture Affairs Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom has said that in the contemporary world, decisions on trade and investment are not based solely on economic calculations, rather a country’s cultural identity, values and international image also play an important role.
He made the remarks today while addressing the plenary session titled ‘Thematic Three: The Next Phase – Government Policy, AI, Creative Industries and Sports of the Bangladesh Trade and Investment Conference 2026’, held at a city hotel.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Md. Aminul Haque and Adviser to the Prime Minister on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and Science and Technology (with the status of State Minister) Rehan Asif Asad attended the event as special guests.
Ali Newaz said that Bangladesh’s music, literature, films, heritage and creative industries can play a significant role in building a positive image of the country internationally and in fostering long-term cultural and economic relations.
He said that creative industries have now emerged globally as one of the leading sectors for economic growth, employment generation and attracting foreign investment. Bangladesh is working to provide the necessary policy support and infrastructure development to transform its cultural assets into economic strength, he added.
He called upon international partners and investors to participate in Bangladesh’s creative industries, cultural tourism and joint ventures.
Representatives from various countries, diplomats, government officials, economists, and representatives from the creative and sports sectors were present at the event.
