Popular actor Tawsif Mahbub recently took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling how he bought his first mobile phone with money earned from tutoring.
Tawsif shared the memory at a ceremony organised by Symphony Mobile at a city hotel on Thursday to celebrate the company reaching 14 crore customers in the local market.
Recalling his early days, the actor said he bought his first mobile phone in 2009 after working as a tutor at a private coaching centre. He saved his earnings for six months before finally having enough money to purchase the handset.
The phone, from Symphony, cost him Tk 8,000 — a significant amount for him at the time.
Tawsif said owning the phone made him feel particularly smart and confident. He also recalled how having the handset changed the way he carried himself around young women, joking that he would pose differently and show off a little extra attitude.
The actor's recollection offered a glimpse into a much simpler chapter of his life, long before he became a familiar face on television and OTT platforms. Tawsif has since established himself as one of Bangladesh's popular television actors, with roles including Nehal in the long-running Bachelor Point.
His latest projects have continued to expand his range. Most recently, he has been working on Shihab Shaheen's upcoming web film Cafe Umbrella, in which he plays a pilot.
For Tawsif, however, the story of his first phone remains a reminder of a time when a Tk 8,000 handset, bought with six months of hard-earned tuition money, could feel like a major personal milestone.
