Education Minister Pledges Transparent Exams, Merit-Based Teacher Evaluation
Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said the government is ensuring transparency and accountability in examination assessment by eliminating irregularities in the process such as under-marking and over-marking that existed in the past.
The minister, who is also in-charge of the ministry of Primary and Mass Education, said the recent Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations results reflected students' actual merit and competence.
The minister made the remarks while addressing the closing ceremony of the 210th Basic Training Course at the auditorium of the National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) in the capital this afternoon as the chief guest.
He also said arrangements are being made for students who failed in one or two subjects to sit for improvement examinations promptly so that they would not lose valuable academic time.
He said the government is working relentlessly to develop the country's education system in line with global standards and introduce a merit-based assessment system by eliminating nepotism and artificial practices.
Emphasising improvements in teachers' standards and technological transformation in education, he said all forms of nepotism in teacher recruitment, promotion and evaluation would be eliminated.
Teachers' performance would be assessed entirely on the basis of merit and skills through a pyramid-structured, software-based digital process, he said, adding that this would ensure that qualified and meritorious teachers could serve in appropriate positions and play a key role in advancing education.
Dr Milon also said there is no alternative to improving the quality of the education system and providing proper training to teachers to build a modern and time-befitting education system for the next generation.
NAEM Director General Dr. Wasim Md Mazbahul Haque presided over the programme, attended by officials concerned and teachers participating in the training course.
