The United States has congratulated Indonesia on the 81st anniversary of its independence, reaffirming the enduring partnership between the two countries and highlighting cooperation in security, trade, energy and technology.

In a statement issued on August 16, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended warm congratulations to the people of Indonesia on behalf of the United States.

Rubio said the US-Indonesia relationship is rooted in a shared commitment to democratic governance and a common vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific.

He noted that the two countries’ Comprehensive Strategic Partnership reflects the depth and breadth of bilateral cooperation, particularly in defense and regional security, as well as fair and balanced trade, energy and technology.

The United States, he said, looks forward to creating new avenues of opportunity with Indonesia in priority areas including critical minerals, maritime security and the digital economy.

We offer our heartfelt congratulations to you and the people of Indonesia as we continue our journey together toward shared prosperity,” Rubio said.

The US Secretary of State also expressed condolences to those who lost loved ones in the devastating earthquake and its aftermath in East Nusa Tenggara.

He extended sympathy to those injured and to communities affected by the disaster, saying that the thoughts of the United States remain with them during this difficult time.

The statement comes as Washington and Jakarta continue to deepen their strategic engagement across the Indo-Pacific, with economic, security and emerging-technology cooperation increasingly forming important pillars of the bilateral relationship.
