Washington sees India partnership as key to regional prosperity.
WASHINGTON, Aug 15, 2026: The United States has extended warm congratulations to the people of India on the occasion of the country’s Independence Day, highlighting the growing strategic partnership between Washington and New Delhi.
In a press statement issued on Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the relationship between the United States and India “continues to grow and is stronger than ever,” citing the personal relationship between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Rubio said bilateral cooperation was expanding across a range of strategic areas, including defence, energy security, critical minerals, artificial intelligence, space cooperation and commerce.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend warm congratulations to the people of India on their Independence Day,” the Secretary of State said.
He emphasised that growing US-India cooperation was contributing to the security, strength and prosperity of both countries as well as the broader Indian Ocean region.
According to Rubio, the “deep ties of friendship and family” between the American and Indian peoples provide the foundation for a partnership that is innovative, resilient and forward-looking.
The US Secretary of State also expressed Washington’s expectation of further strengthening bilateral cooperation and building a shared future between the two countries.
The message comes as India marks its 80th Independence Day on August 15, with the occasion being observed by Indian communities and diplomatic missions around the world.
The US statement reflects Washington’s emphasis on the strategic importance of its relationship with India, particularly in emerging technologies, defence, energy and economic cooperation.
