KATHMANDU, Sept 19: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has extended greetings to the people of Nepal on the occasion of the country’s Constitution Day, while expressing solidarity with communities affected by the recent flash floods.

In a statement issued on September 18, Rubio said the United States congratulated the people of Nepal as they marked Constitution Day on September 19.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and communities devastated by the recent flash flood, including our fellow Americans affected by this tragedy,” he said.

Rubio said the United States joins Nepal in mourning those who lost their lives in the disaster as search, rescue and recovery efforts continue.

He also said Washington remained committed to supporting Nepal’s recovery efforts.

Highlighting the longstanding bilateral relationship, Rubio said the US-Nepal relationship spans nearly 80 years.

“The United States looks forward to further strengthening our partnership through the expansion of trade, innovation, and investment ties to benefit both our nations in the years to come,” he said.

Nepal observes Constitution Day on September 19, commemorating the promulgation of its Constitution in 2015.
