Evercare Hospital Dhaka Organizes Awareness Session on World Stroke Day

[Dhaka, 29 October 2026] – Marking World Stroke Day under the theme “Spot It, Stop It,” Evercare Hospital Dhaka organized a rally and an awareness session today (Thursday, 29 October) to highlight the importance of recognizing stroke symptoms and taking immediate action.

The event was attended by Dr. Ratnadeep Chaskar, CEO and Managing Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh and Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh. The discussion featured Prof. Dr. Abdul Kader Shaikh, Senior Consultant & Coordinator, Department of Neurology; Dr. Khandker Mahbubar Rahman, Senior Consultant; Dr. S.M. Hasan Shahriar, Senior Consultant; and Prof. Dr. Anwar Israil, Senior Consultant, all from the Department of Neurology at Evercare Hospital Dhaka.

Time is one of the most critical factors in stroke treatment. In cases of an ischemic stroke caused by a blood clot blocking a blood vessel in the brain, clot-busting treatment may be administered within the first four and a half hours, depending on the patient's condition and eligibility. However, a lack of awareness about the early warning signs of stroke can delay treatment, increasing the risk of severe complications and death.

During the awareness session, specialists discussed the warning signs of stroke and the immediate steps that should be taken. Sudden weakness on one side of the body, numbness or weakness in an arm or leg, slurred speech and facial drooping are key warning signs that require urgent medical attention. Anyone experiencing these symptoms should be taken to the emergency department without delay.

Dr. Arif Mahmud, Group Medical Director of Evercare Hospitals, Bangladesh, said, “Time plays the most critical role in stroke treatment. At Evercare Hospital Dhaka, advanced neurology and neurosurgery services are available under one roof. From emergency care to critical care, our stroke unit remains ready to provide care to patients. However, these services can make a difference only when people are aware of the warning signs and patients are brought to the hospital in time.”

Prof. Dr. Abdul Kader Shaikh, Senior Consultant & Coordinator, Department of Neurology, said, “While hospital preparedness is essential for stroke treatment, public awareness is equally important. Our goal at Evercare Hospital Dhaka is to make internationally benchmarked healthcare accessible in Bangladesh. Through this World Stroke Day initiative, we aim to raise public awareness so that people can recognize the symptoms of stroke and make the right decisions without delay.”

The Department of Neurology at Evercare Hospital Dhaka provides consultation, diagnostic evaluation, and treatment for a wide range of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles. In collaboration with the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre, the hospital also offers neurorehabilitation services for patients recovering from stroke. Through greater public awareness, early recognition of stroke symptoms, and timely hospital care, many lives can be saved, and the risk of long-term disability can be reduced.
