Honor Eminent Personalities to Inspire New Generation: Fakir Mahbub Anam
DHAKA, August 21, 2026: Eminent individuals who have made significant contributions to society and the nation should be recognized and honored irrespective of their religion, political affiliation or identity, Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has said.
He stressed the need to preserve the legacies of such personalities and make their contributions known to the younger generation so that their lives and achievements can inspire young people to engage in social and community activities.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest at the “Centennial Successful Personalities Commemorative Award, Publication and Reception-2026”, held at the Osman Jamal Auditorium of the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, on Thursday.
Fakir Mahbub Anam expressed concern over the declining reading habit among young people, attributing it partly to the excessive use of mobile phones and social media.
He also warned that the proliferation of harmful and inappropriate content on social media is having adverse effects on children and adolescents. The government, he said, is working with relevant stakeholders and social media platforms to address the issue and take necessary measures.
The minister further expressed concern over the growing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create fake and harmful content. He said the Information and Communication Technology Division is working to prevent the misuse of AI and has undertaken initiatives to establish an effective framework in coordination with social media platforms.

Congratulating the award recipients, the minister said recognizing individuals for their creativity, dedication and contributions to society would encourage others to undertake constructive initiatives and serve the public.
At the event, the covers of eight books were unveiled. Several publications commemorating centennial distinguished personalities were also released, while a number of eminent individuals were honoured for their contributions.
The organisers said the programme was organised to preserve the lives, achievements and contributions of distinguished personalities and promote positive thinking among the younger generation.
