Maldives envoy stresses meaningful youth participation in climate action

Dhaka, September 22, 2026: Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed has stressed the need for meaningful youth participation in climate action, saying the voices, experiences and ideas of young people should be reflected in climate discussions and decision-making.

She made the remarks as the Guest of Honour at the closing ceremony of the Bangladesh Youth CoP (BYCoP), organised by ActionAid Bangladesh in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The High Commissioner highlighted the shared climate challenges faced by Bangladesh and the Maldives as two countries highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

She underscored the importance of continued cooperation and stronger climate action, while calling for greater attention to the perspectives of communities most affected by climate change.

During a question-and-answer session, Rasheed engaged with participants on climate action, youth leadership and the role of young people in shaping responses to climate change.

She also shared perspectives and experiences from the Maldives, according to the organisers.

The event brought together young people engaged in climate issues and provided a platform for discussion on youth participation in addressing the growing challenges posed by climate change.
