Amit urges officials to prioritize people’s welfare and service
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit today said public representatives and government officials must adopt a service-oriented approach and remain committed to serving the people.
“Ensuring people’s voting rights is one of the government’s key responsibilities. Public representatives and government officials must work for the welfare of the countrymen,” he said.
The state minister made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with district officials, organized to oversee and coordinate overall government activities in the district, including law and order, corruption and drug control, ensuring transparency and accountability, public welfare and development initiatives.
The meeting was held at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner's office this afternoon, with Deputy Commissioner Shilpi Rani Roy in the chair.
Mentioning that border districts face drug-related problems, Amit called for effective measures to curb drug abuse by utilizing their experience.
He also stressed the need to prevent smuggling along the borders.
Responding to a question, he said Bangladesh is dependent on imported fuel oil and that international oil prices have increased due to the ongoing war situation.
“As a result, fuel oil prices have also increased somewhat in our country. If fuel oil prices fall in the international market, the government will quickly adjust prices in the domestic market,” he said.
Meherpur Superintendent of Police Ujjal Kumar Roy, District Council Administrator and Meherpur district BNP President Javed Masud Milton, Principal of Meherpur Government College Professor Dr Nazrul Kabir, and Superintendent of Meherpur General Hospital Dr Sazzad Hossain, among others, spoke at the meeting.
Political leaders, government officials and journalists of the district were present at the meeting.
