Water Resources Minister Anee urges unity to protect democracy.
Water Resources Minister Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee today praised the role of left-wing unity in the last 17 year’s democratic movement saying their role in the anti-fascist movement was outstanding.
He stressed the need for forging unity among the political parties those participated in the anti-fascist movement to make democracy sustainable.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) here as the chief guest.
The discussion focused on the responsibilities of the political parties in carrying out a joint movement to confront the threats against democracy and attempts by the anti-liberation forces to undermine the democratic process.
Anee said the government had been in office for less than six months and needed more time to be assessed. He alleged that the opposition has already trying to bring down the government.
He further said those seeking to create favourable situation for fascist Hasina to return the country in December would have to bear responsibility for their actions.
Anee said the people of the country are confronting all conspiracies from the streets and called on them to remain vigilant and thwart any such attempts through street movements in the days ahead.
The meeting was chaired by freedom fighter Harun Chowdhury. Biplobi Workers Party General Secretary Saiful Haque and Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Khan Mohammad Nur-e-Alam spoke among others on the occasion.
