Government supports families of Qatar accident victims with aid.
Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury today handed over government assistance to families of five Bangladeshi expatriates who were killed in a road accident in Qatar on June 21.
At Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's directives, each bereaved family received a cheque worth Tk 300,000 from the fund of the Wage Earners' Welfare Board at a ceremony held in Kanaighat, said a press release.
Highlighting various government measures aimed at securing the future of the bereaved families, the minister said the government would provide the necessary assistance to cover the full educational expenses of the children in these families.
At the same time, to restore the social and financial stability of the families who have lost their loved ones, the government will take steps to send at least one member from each family abroad on a priority basis under government arrangements, he said.
Issuing a stern warning against human trafficking and illegal migration, the minister urged local residents to expose brokers who lure young people from the area and send them abroad illegally by sea or through other risky routes.
"Provide us with information about these brokers. We will take strict legal action against them," he said.
Sylhet-5 constituency MP Mufti Mohammad Abul Hasan and Reserved Women's Seat MP Shammi Akter were present.
