Bangladesh Stands With Nepal After Deadly Floods
Bangladesh has expressed deep condolences and solidarity with Nepal following devastating flash floods and landslides that have caused loss of life and widespread damage in the Himalayan nation.
Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on Wednesday morning spoke with his Nepalese counterpart, Shisir Khanal, and conveyed Bangladesh’s condolences on behalf of the government and people.
Describing the disaster as a “terrible tragedy,” Dr. Rahman said Bangladesh’s thoughts and prayers were with the families who had lost their loved ones.
He also said that, so far, no Bangladeshi national had been reported dead or injured in the disaster. However, he sought the support of the Nepalese government should any Bangladeshi casualty or other affected national be identified.
The foreign minister conveyed that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman stood in full solidarity with the government and people of Nepal during this difficult time. He also assured that Bangladesh was ready to provide any support required by Nepal.
Nepalese Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal thanked Bangladesh for its gesture of solidarity, saying Nepalese authorities were still assessing the extent of the damage caused by the floods and landslides.
He said the Nepalese government would inform Bangladesh of any specific requirements after completing a comprehensive assessment of the situation.
During the telephone conversation, Dr. Rahman also conveyed Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s personal message of condolence to Nepalese Prime Minister Balendra Shah.
