Bangladesh working internationally to recover siphoned money and assets.
Bangladesh is working with international partners to recover money and assets siphoned abroad, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir said today, reaffirming the government's determination to bring the stolen wealth back home.
"We’re working with international partners to recover assets and money that have been siphoned abroad," he told journalists at the foreign ministry here this afternoon.
Kobir said Bangladesh has already established a partnership with the United Kingdom as part of its efforts to trace and recover the assets.
The government is also engaging with other countries that possess the necessary legal and forensic expertise to facilitate the recovery process, he said.
"We’re talking with countries that have the necessary legal and forensic expertise," the state minister said.
Kobir said the government would pursue both legal and diplomatic channels to bring the siphoned money and assets back to Bangladesh.
He described the assets as wealth belonging to the people and said the government remained committed to ensuring their return to the country.
"Through legal and diplomatic processes, we are determined to bring this stolen money and assets belonging to the people back to Bangladesh," he added.
The state minister said recovered assets should ultimately be used for the welfare of ordinary people rather than benefiting individuals.
Kobir's remarks came in response to a question about the government's international engagement to recover huge amounts of money allegedly siphoned out of Bangladesh.
