Government prioritising law and order, development through coordination.
State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku, MP, today said the present government, elected by the votes of the people, is working to keep the country's law and order situation normal while pushing development activities forward.
"Effective coordination among the district administration, police administration and public representatives is essential to this end," he said, adding that alongside maintaining law and order, obstacles to development work must also be identified and resolved.
Sultan Salauddin Tuku, also the minister in charge of overseeing law and order and other development activities of Dhaka district, made these remarks as the chief guest at a views-exchange meeting with members of parliament and the administration.
The meeting, held at the conference room of the Dhaka deputy commissioner's office, focused on the overall law and order situation and other development activities of the district, said a ministry press release.
Mentioning that improving the law and order situation is not the responsibility of the administration alone, the state minister said a safe and stable society can be built only through the coordinated initiative of the political leadership, administration, law enforcement agencies and the general public.
He said drugs have currently emerged as a major threat to society, with people from various classes and professions becoming involved. To prevent the spread of drugs, the administration, public representatives and social organisations need to play a more active role, he noted.
Underlining the necessity of special vigilance to prevent various criminal activities occurring in the capital and its surrounding areas, Tuku particularly stressed increasing the activities of law enforcement agencies in crime-prone areas and raising political and social public awareness.
He said the past fascist government pushed the country towards crisis through unconstitutional governance, oppression and repression, and widespread corruption, and siphoned off the country's money abroad.
From that situation, the government elected by the votes of the people has taken up the responsibility of running the state under the leadership of the prime minister, he said, adding: "The government is working sincerely to improve the situation."
He continued, "If everyone works in a united and responsible manner, it is possible to improve any situation."
Regarding the dengue situation, the state minister said the risk of dengue may increase further over the coming months. Therefore, public representatives, the administration and local people must work together on cleanliness, destroying mosquito breeding grounds and raising public awareness, he said.
He called for stepping up regular monitoring to prevent antisocial activities at residential hotels, guesthouses and other places.
Addressing government officials, the state minister said that as officials of the state, they must carry out their duties giving the highest importance to public welfare and the interest of the state.
All activities of the administration should be conducted in the interest of the state and the people, and not in the interest of any individual or group,
he opined.
The meeting, presided over by Dhaka Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, was attended as special guest by State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain, MP.
Chief Whip of the Opposition in the National Parliament Nahid Islam, MP, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-12 constituency Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Member of Parliament from a reserved women's seat Ferdousi Ahmed, Superintendent of Police Shamima Parvin, representatives of various law enforcement agencies, officials of the local government division, public representatives and members of the district law and order committee, among others, were present.
