Mir Shahe Alam says BNP seeks people's mandate, rejects vote-free power.
State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, MP, today said BNP always wants to establish a government of the people and believes in running the state with the votes and mandate of the people.
"We do not dream of assuming power through elections without votes or in the dead of night," he said.
The state minister made the remarks while attending the health camp as the chief guest this morning at the Adarsha High School ground in Mirpur-10, said a ministry press release.
A daylong dengue fever and primary healthcare camp was organised by Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to raise awareness among city dwellers about dengue prevention and to ensure medical services.
On the occasion, state minister for Health Dr M A Muhith was present as the special guest.
Mir Shahe Alam said the present government, under the far-sighted and courageous leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, is working with the highest priority on the welfare and satisfaction of the people.
Citing the administrative actions taken against ministers and MPs over the past seven months as proof of the government's transparency and accountability, he said, "Not even the slightest act against the interest of the people will be tolerated."
Referring to the results of the by-elections, the state minister said the people rejected disorganised political conspiracies and elected the BNP-nominated candidates by a huge margin in free, fair and impartial elections.
Criticising the opposition parties, he said the people of the country have rejected the political parties that tried to cover up their immoral activities.
"BNP is a responsible party. In the event of any failure of the government or on issues such as electricity load-shedding, the prime minister stands in the Jatiya Sangsad, expresses regret to the nation and presents future action plans. This is the main difference between BNP's integrity and other parties," he said.
The state minister further said BNP leaders and activists are serving the people, standing by them, inspired by the ideals of Ziaur Rahman, Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman.
"Based on the efforts BNP has taken to supply safe drinking water, gas and primary healthcare, develop roads, free footpaths from encroachment, plant trees and build a clean and livable Dhaka, and the people of Dhaka will elect BNP candidates again in the coming days," he said.
He said initiatives like this free healthcare camp by the DNCC would play a commendable role in ensuring access to medical care for the helpless and ordinary people.
At the programme, a temporary health service camp was inaugurated to raise awareness among residents of areas under the DNCC about dengue, identify affected patients and provide medical services.
Besides, city dwellers who came to the daylong camp were given services in gynaecology, child health, dermatology, EPI, family planning, non-communicable diseases (NCD) and nutrition, along with general treatment and free medicines.
DNCC Administrator Shafiqul Islam Khan presided over the programme, which was attended by City Corporation and various administrative officials and political leaders.
