Chinese students showcase dragon, lion dances at Notun Kuri opening in Khulna

A group of Chinese students performed traditional dragon and lion dances at the opening ceremony of Notun Kuri Sports (Season-2) in Khulna today.

The students from Yunnan Minzu University in Kunming, China, staged the performance at Khulna District Stadium in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, said PM’s Assistant Press Secretary Gazi Shahriar Pamir.

He said the students performed the traditional dances as part of efforts to strengthen sports and cultural cooperation between Bangladesh and China.

The Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) and Yunnan Minzu University have long run a sports training exchange programme.

Under the programme, BKSP coaches train the Chinese students in cricket, while Chinese coaches teach BKSP students wushu, a traditional Chinese martial art.

BKSP athletes are also being trained by Chinese coaches in table tennis, athletics, badminton, swimming and diving.

Those concerned said such cultural events will further strengthen friendship and cultural exchange between the people of the two countries.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated Notun Kuri Sports (Season-2) by releasing balloons and pigeons at Khulna District Stadium.

State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque and Jatiya Sangsad Whip and Khulna-3 MP Rakibul Islam Bakul were present, among others, on the occasion.
