Minister reaffirms government's commitment to implementing July Charter.
State Minister for Water Resources Forhad Hossain Azad today reaffirmed the government's commitment to fully implementing the July Charter, describing it as a guiding document that would be implemented in its entirety.
"The government led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman remains determined to implement every provision of the charter," he said.
The state minister was talking to reporters after paying tribute at the July Martyrs' Memorial at Sher-e-Bangla Park in Panchagarh.
Calling for national unity, Azad urged all political parties and people of different opinions to remain united to prevent "fascist forces" from exploiting divisions and destabilising the country.
"We must protect the independence Bangladesh has achieved for the second time. Let us remain united so that no force can create discord among us again," he said.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the July Mass Uprising, Azad recalled that five young men from Panchagarh were killed during the movement and offered prayers for the eternal peace of their souls.
Earlier, floral tributes were placed at the memorial by the district administration, district police, district council, Civil Surgeon's Office, government and private organisations, families of the July martyrs and various voluntary groups.
Special prayers were also offered for the martyrs and for the recovery and well-being of the injured July warriors and bereaved families.
Deputy Commissioner Mrs Shukria Parvin, Superintendent of Police Md Abu Saim, Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mizanur Rahman and other senior officials attended the programme.
Later, the state minister joined a reception for the families of the July martyrs and injured July warriors at the Government Auditorium.
He also attended a discussion meeting organised by the district administration, where local officials, legal professionals and political leaders addressed the gathering.
