India, Bangladesh Reaffirm Commitment to Expand Energy Cooperation

India and Bangladesh have reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the power and energy sectors, underscoring the importance of cross-border energy connectivity in advancing their economic partnership.

The commitment was reiterated during a courtesy call by Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi on Bangladesh's Adviser for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Iqbal Hassan Mahmood in Dhaka.

State Minister Anindya Islam Amit was also present during the meeting.

According to the Indian High Commission, the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in the power and energy sectors, with particular emphasis on cross-border electricity and energy connectivity as a key pillar of the India–Bangladesh economic partnership.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening collaboration based on mutual interest and mutual benefit. They agreed to continue working together to strengthen regional energy connectivity, enhance energy security, promote sustainable development, and contribute to the economic growth and prosperity of the people of both countries.

India and Bangladesh have significantly expanded energy cooperation over the past decade through cross-border electricity trade, power transmission links, and joint energy projects, making the sector one of the strongest pillars of bilateral relations. The latest meeting reflects the two neighbours' continued resolve to build on these achievements and explore new avenues of collaboration in the evolving regional energy landscape.
