Muktadir stresses innovation, talent to boost productivity
Industries, Commerce and Textiles and Jute Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir today said innovative thinking, talent development and new ideas are essential to increasing productivity.
"Productivity is a continuous process with no ultimate limit. Its main objective is to achieve greater output of better quality in fewer working hours," he said.
The minister made the remarks as the chief guest while visiting an innovation exhibition and attending a discussion and prize-giving ceremony marking National Productivity Day 2026 at BCIC College at Mirpur in the city, said a press release.
Director General of the National Productivity Organization Md Naieb Ali chaired the programme, while Industries Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, BCIC College Principal Colonel Dr Md Moksed Ali, guardians and students also spoke.
The industries minister said productivity is a culture, and countries that have embraced this culture have made continuous progress.
"Productivity is about an individual achieving greater output in fewer working hours," he said, adding that productivity is always relative and offers scope for continuous improvement.
Praising the innovative thinking and talent of the college students, Muktadir said their ideas and creativity showcased at the exhibition had inspired him.
He noted that although many of the ideas had yet to be transformed into machines or tangible products, they could serve as important foundations for future innovations.
"Those who have received recognition today for their innovative ideas will be invited for further discussions. Experts will assess which ideas are commercially viable and could be financed as startups," he said.
The minister said the government wanted to support young people in turning their innovative ideas into practical solutions. He assured students that the government and relevant institutions would stand beside them if they came forward with promising ideas.
He also assured the college of necessary support to transform it into a modern and model educational institution.
Initiatives would be taken to ensure essential facilities, including modern technology, CCTV cameras and projectors, for students, he added.
Later, the minister distributed prizes among students who won in different categories at the innovation exhibition. Earlier, he visited various stalls at the exhibition.
